Hillside lots and walk-out lower levels

Building into a slope means a lot of homes here have a lower level partly below grade on one side and fully exposed on the other. That is a genuinely difficult zone to condition with a single-zone system: the buried side stays cool and damp while the exposed side follows the outdoor temperature. Adding a ductless head to serve that space is often a better answer than fighting it with the main system, and it is cheaper than reworking the whole duct layout.

Moisture coming off the river

Proximity to the Illinois River keeps summer humidity high. Cooling equipment here needs to run long enough to actually dry the air, which means correct sizing matters more than raw capacity.
